When there is an undercompacted mudstone layer with gas-generating capacity in the stratigraphic profile, a method for dividing the natural gas diffusion system in the stratigraphic profile is established by analyzing the influence of natural gas diffusion, using the abnormal gap filling point of the undercompacted mudstone layer and the maximum burial depth point that can prevent the natural gas from diffusing upward. The method is applied to the Sanzhao area of the Songliao Basin. The results objectively reflect the diffusion law of natural gas in the vertical direction of the area, which is of great significance for correctly understanding the accumulation and preservation of natural gas in the area.
