Discovery and prediction of oil and gas in the Taipei 2.1 sequence in the Pearl River Mouth Basin

Abstract

The bottom boundary of TB2.1 sequence (SB21) and the maximum flooding surface (MFS18.5) were determined by using the sequence stratigraphic analysis method combining seismic, well logging and paleontology. Then, a comprehensive evaluation was conducted on the low-stand fan complex between these two interfaces, indicating that the Baiyun fan complex has a good combination of source, reservoir and caprock, and may form a stratigraphic trap or stratigraphic-structural trap, which is an important direction for future exploration.
