Natural gas accumulation and geochemical characteristics in the Tarim Basin

Abstract

 Based on the analysis of existing geological data, this paper first systematically analyzes the geochemical characteristics of natural gas in the Tarim Basin from the aspects of natural gas composition, gaseous hydrocarbon carbon isotopes, non-hydrocarbon gas isotopes, natural gas light hydrocarbons and associated condensate oil, and proposes a natural gas genesis classification scheme of three major categories and five subcategories. Then, based on the differences in the distribution and controlling factors of different types of natural gas in the basin, the gas accumulation zones in the three major types of natural gas occurrence areas are divided, and the overall distribution pattern of natural gas in the Tarim Basin is summarized.
